BMW 5-Series Vehicle Chassis

E28 — ’81-’87

The E28 was the first mainstream 5 Series and was a larger vehicle than the 3 Series. When the E28 M5 launched in 1984, it was one of the fastest production sedans on the market.

E34 — ’88-’95

With the popular 90s BMW styling, the E34 was more streamlined than its predecessor. Often cited as one of the most reliable BMWs ever made, the E34 earned best-in-class ratings from Intellichoice and offered impressive safety features. The M5 version of this generation is the rarest M5 vehicle.

E39 — ’96-’03

Often making it onto Car and Driver’s “10 Best” list, the E39 sported an upgraded and modern interior and exterior. It’s often cited as the most popular M5 vehicle by BMW drivers.

E60 — ’02-’07

One of the more recent chassis, the E60 offers superb handling that was unmatched for its time. The E60 became the best-selling 5-Series, despite mixed reviews for its non-traditional exterior design.
