BMW Upgrades with the M5 Competition Package
BMW M5 Competition Packages are slowly leaking to the public, and we at North Bay Bavarian couldn’t be more excited about it. BMW has been working tirelessly to create a performance package that would beat anything they’ve ever crafted, and we think they achieved that goal. The BMW upgrades in this package are outstanding. We explore those upgrades in this article.
BMW Upgrades for the M5 Competition Package
Andy Cook, BMW’s product executive for large cars in the BMW line, said that the Competition Pack will improve upon the great driving dynamics of the F90 M5. The Competition Package will bring tweaked dynamics, and likely standard ceramic brakes – which are a $10,000 option on the standard car.
The new M5 uses the newest version of BMW’s 4.4 liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine making the M5 600 hp on the nose and 553 lb-ft of torque, all coursing through the veins of an 8-speed ZF automatic that has been modified for the M5. As expected, the new M5 Competition package is bringing more horsepower through this engine modification as well as quicken up acceleration during those morning commutes.
You could probably guess that the M5 competition package was coming, as the BMW blog pointed out, if you took a closer look at the M3 and M4. BMW will always be neck in neck for innovation and technology, and the main competitor for the M5, the Mercedes-AMG E63 model, will probably be sore to hear that the new M5 competition package will bring an extra 16HP, making it more powerful than the E63.
It’s rumored that the car will sit lower than its standard counterparts as well, at about 7mm under. The full specs will be available in April, but we can dream, right? Searching around, we can’t really put our fingers on the exhaust quite, yet. It’s supposed to be revised somehow, but we’re not sure in what way. There WILL be Carbon Ceramic Brakes as a standalone option, but again, just guessing up to this point.
